1. How many days do I need to explore Cambodia?

For a first visit, 5 to 7 days is enough to experience Siem Reap and Angkor, with time to add Phnom Penh or another part of the country.

With 8 to 12 days, you can travel at a more relaxed pace and include the countryside, Battambang, Kampot, Kep or a few days by the coast.

2. How many days should I spend in Siem Reap and Angkor?

We generally recommend at least three nights in Siem Reap.

This gives you enough time to explore Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm without rushing, while still leaving room for smaller temples, local experiences or time to enjoy Siem Reap itself.

3. Is sunrise at Angkor Wat worth it?

For many travelers, yes. Seeing Angkor Wat at first light can be a memorable experience.

It is also one of the busiest times at the temple, so good planning makes a difference. Depending on your interests, we may also recommend quieter times of day or alternative temples where the atmosphere feels more peaceful.

4. What are the best things to do in Cambodia besides visiting Angkor Wat?

Cambodia offers much more than its famous temples.

You can explore Phnom Penh, cycle through the countryside, visit local communities, experience life around Tonle Sap, discover colonial towns such as Kampot and spend time along the southern coast or on one of Cambodia’s islands.

5. What food should I try in Cambodia?

Cambodian cuisine is fresh, aromatic and often milder than neighboring Thai food.

Popular dishes include fish amok, Khmer curry, beef lok lak, fresh spring rolls and dishes flavored with Kampot pepper. Local markets, family run restaurants and contemporary Khmer dining can all add another dimension to the journey.

6. Is Cambodia safe for travelers?

Cambodia is generally a welcoming destination for international travelers.

Normal precautions are advisable in busy areas, particularly with valuables and personal belongings. When visiting temples, rural communities or less familiar areas, having reliable local arrangements can make the experience more comfortable and straightforward.

7. Is Cambodia suitable for families?

Yes. Cambodia can work very well for families when the itinerary is planned at the right pace.

Temple visits can be balanced with cycling, countryside experiences, boat trips, local crafts and time by the pool. Private touring is particularly useful for families because the day can be adjusted around different ages and energy levels.

8. Can I combine Cambodia with Vietnam, Laos or Thailand?

Yes. Cambodia combines easily with all three.

Vietnam and Cambodia is one of the most natural combinations, while Cambodia and Thailand work particularly well for travelers interested in culture followed by a beach stay. Laos can also be added for a quieter journey focused on heritage, landscapes and local life.

The most important thing is to allow enough time so that Cambodia does not feel like a brief stop between other destinations.
