For us, the best way to experience Sihanoukville is to understand its role within the wider coast rather than expecting it to be a traditional seaside town.

November to April generally brings drier weather and more favourable conditions for beaches and island travel.

How Long to Stay

For travellers continuing to the islands, one night in Sihanoukville is often enough, and in many itineraries an overnight stay may not be necessary at all if ferry and flight timings connect comfortably.

For a proper beach stay, we usually recommend spending three to five nights on Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem rather than remaining in Sihanoukville itself.

Sihanoukville has a wide range of accommodation, but for leisure journeys we are selective about both location and purpose.

A comfortable coastal hotel can work well for a short overnight before an island transfer.

For travellers whose priority is relaxation, privacy and a good beach, we generally prefer resorts on the surrounding islands.
