Welcome to Phnom Penh, a city that evokes visions of the exotic, with its shimmering Royal Palace spires, saffron-robed monks, and a stunning riverside setting along the majestic Mekong River. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

After breakfast at the hotel, begin your guided exploration of Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital of Cambodia. Visit the elegant Royal Palace, the official residence of the King, renowned for its classic Khmer architecture and beautifully manicured gardens. Within the palace grounds, explore the sacred Silver Pagoda, named for its gleaming silver floor tiles and home to a dazzling collection of Buddha statues made from gold, silver, crystal, and emerald.
Continue to the National Museum, which houses the world’s finest collection of Khmer art and artifacts, offering an insightful look into Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage. Then, enjoy some time at the lively Russian Market (Psar Toul Tom Poung), known for its maze of stalls selling everything from handmade souvenirs and silk scarves to antiques and local snacks.

After breakfast, begin your full-day exploration of the ancient Khmer capital. This morning, visit the monumental South Gate of Angkor Thom, once the heart of the Khmer Empire. Enter through its impressive stone gate, flanked by statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, and proceed to the awe-inspiring Bayon Temple, known for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 enigmatic smiling faces.
Continue your visit to Baphuon, a pyramidal representation of Mount Meru built in the 11th century, and stroll through the impressive Terrace of the Elephants, where royal audiences and ceremonies were once held. Nearby lies the Terrace of the Leper King, adorned with intricate carvings and shrouded in mystery. You’ll also explore Phimeanakas, once the royal temple of the ancient city.

This morning, embark on a scenic one-hour cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Glide past a fascinating floating village, where homes, schools, and even markets rest on the water. Witness the unique lifestyle of the local fishing communities, whose daily lives are shaped by the ebb and flow of the lake.
Return to the city and visit Chantiers Écoles – Artisans d’Angkor, a social enterprise preserving traditional Khmer craftsmanship. Observe young artisans creating intricate wood carvings, stone sculptures, and silk paintings using age-old techniques. Then stroll through the bustling Old Market (Psar Chas), where you can browse for souvenirs, local handicrafts, and taste authentic street snacks.

In the afternoon, drive to Phauk Village, known as the base of the Silk Village. This traditional village is home to skilled artisans practicing marble carving, silk weaving, and silk embroidery. Gain insight into each step of the silk-making process, from silkworm cultivation to hand-loom weaving.
On your way back, stop for a short visit to West Baray, an impressive man-made reservoir from the Angkor period, once used for irrigation and still popular today among local families for recreation.

2. How many days should I spend in Siem Reap and Angkor?
We generally recommend at least three nights in Siem Reap.
This gives you enough time to explore Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm without rushing, while still leaving room for smaller temples, local experiences or time to enjoy Siem Reap itself.
3. Is sunrise at Angkor Wat worth it?
For many travelers, yes. Seeing Angkor Wat at first light can be a memorable experience.
It is also one of the busiest times at the temple, so good planning makes a difference. Depending on your interests, we may also recommend quieter times of day or alternative temples where the atmosphere feels more peaceful.
4. What are the best things to do in Cambodia besides visiting Angkor Wat?
Cambodia offers much more than its famous temples.
You can explore Phnom Penh, cycle through the countryside, visit local communities, experience life around Tonle Sap, discover colonial towns such as Kampot and spend time along the southern coast or on one of Cambodia’s islands.

Cambodian cuisine is fresh, aromatic and often milder than neighboring Thai food.
