Everything you need to know when planning your journey through Indochina
For LuxeTravel Asia, an Indochina journey typically combines Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Each country offers a very different experience: Vietnam for its landscapes, cities and cuisine, Cambodia for Angkor and Khmer heritage, and Laos for its slower pace, Buddhist culture and river life.
We generally recommend at least 14 to 18 days for two countries, and around 18 to 24 days if you would like to experience Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos together.
With more time, the journey can move at a more comfortable pace and include countryside, smaller towns and free days rather than focusing only on the major highlights.
A popular first journey might begin in Hanoi, continue through Central and Southern Vietnam, cross into Cambodia for Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and then finish in Luang Prabang.
The exact route depends on your travel dates, available time and interests. We prefer to design the journey around a natural travel flow rather than simply adding countries to a checklist
There is no single perfect month for all three countries, as weather patterns vary between regions.
In general, November to March offers comfortable conditions across much of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. However, other months can also work very well depending on your route, particularly if you prefer greener landscapes and fewer visitors.
Yes. The three countries are well connected by regional flights, and some routes can also be traveled overland.
For longer distances, flights are usually the most comfortable option. Private vehicles, trains and boats can then be used within each country according to the itinerary.
We plan the connections carefully so that too much of your holiday is not spent simply moving from one place to another.
Entry requirements are different for each country and depend on your nationality, passport and length of stay.
Because an Indochina journey involves several international borders, we recommend checking the visa requirements for each country separately before departure. Our team can also guide you on what to check once your itinerary has been confirmed.
Yes. A multi country journey can work very well for both families and senior travelers when the route is planned at the right pace.
Private transportation, carefully chosen hotels and sensible travel days make a significant difference. We can also reduce long drives, add free time and adapt activities according to different ages, interests and mobility levels.
Absolutely.
You can combine two or three countries, change the number of nights in each destination, select your preferred hotels and adjust the balance between culture, food, nature, local experiences and relaxation.
Our suggested Indochina journeys are designed as starting points. The final itinerary can be shaped around the way you would like to travel.
That depends on how much time you have.
For journeys of around two weeks, two countries usually provide a better balance. With three weeks or more, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos can be combined comfortably without making the trip feel rushed.
Yes. Although Thailand is not traditionally part of Indochina in the same way as Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, it combines very easily with all three.
Bangkok, Northern Thailand or a beach stay can make an excellent extension, particularly for travelers with three weeks or more.
