Ha Giang – Dong van – Cao Bang – Ban Gioc
The northernmost province of Vietnam, Ha Giang, is a captivating destination with majestic mountainous landscapes and a rich cultural mosaic, home to over 20 ethnic minority groups.
8:00 AM – We will pick you up from your hotel in Hanoi and depart for Ha Giang. Along the way, you’ll pass through impressive mountain scenery with dramatic limestone formations. Ha Giang is known for its cultural diversity, where ethnic groups such as the Hmong, Tay, Dao, and Nung coexist and preserve their traditions.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Tuyen Quang.
In the afternoon, continue the journey to Ha Giang city for a coffee break before heading to Quan Ba Heaven Gate, where you can walk uphill to admire panoramic views of the valley, take photos of the famous Twin Mountains, and hear the story behind the legendary Happiness Road.
Arrive in Nam Dam Village, home to the Dao ethnic group. This tranquil village is nestled in a peaceful valley and is known for its well-preserved traditions and friendly locals.
Enjoy dinner with a local host and overnight in a traditional homestay.
Today, drive through the scenic Yen Minh Pass, where you’ll be treated to panoramic views of limestone mountains and deep valleys.
Stop at Pho Cao (Tham Ma Pass) to photograph the iconic Happiness Road before continuing to Lung Cam Cultural Village, the filming location of “The Story of Pao” – a Vietnamese movie that won four Golden Kite Awards (Vietnam’s Oscars).
Next, visit the Vuong Family’s Palace, a historical and architectural gem of the Hmong people, reflecting a mix of French and Chinese styles.
After lunch, continue the journey to Lung Cu, Vietnam’s northernmost point, to visit the National Flag Tower and take in the sweeping views of the borderland.
Arrive in Dong Van for an overnight stay in a hotel. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and take a leisurely walk through the charming Dong Van Old Quarter.
7:30 AM After an early breakfast, check out and depart for the renowned Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the “Four Great Passes” in Vietnam. Visit the Happiness Road Museum and take a short walk to the top of the pass to witness the awe-inspiring scenery.
Continue driving along the Happiness Road, with photo stops and coffee breaks as desired.
Then descend to the emerald Nho Que River, which meanders gracefully through the towering cliffs of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark. The river, known for its vivid turquoise color, remains stunning year-round, especially outside of the rainy season (April–September).
Hop on a “xe ôm” (motorbike taxi) to the boat pier and take a 1-hour boat trip through the breathtaking Tu San Canyon – one of Southeast Asia’s deepest.
Return by motorbike to your vehicle and transfer to Pa Vi Village in Meo Vac for a traditional homestay experience.
8:00 AM – After breakfast and check-out, begin your journey to Cao Bang province.
In the afternoon, visit the historic Pac Bo Cave, a site of great significance in Vietnamese history. It was here that President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked upon returning to Vietnam in 1941 to lead the revolutionary movement.
Arrive in Cao Bang city and check in at your hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay in Cao Bang.
After breakfast, depart for the stunning Ban Gioc Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Vietnam.
En route, stop at the scenic Ma Phuc Pass and Phia Thap Incense Village, where you’ll learn about traditional incense-making that has been passed down for generations.
Continue to the picturesque villages of Ngoc Con and Phong Nam, both perfect for landscape photography and cultural insights.
Arrive at Ban Gioc Waterfall in the afternoon. Enjoy free time to take in the fresh air and serene landscape.
Check in to Saigon Ban Gioc Resort and enjoy leisure time.
Dinner and overnight at the resort.
8:00 AM – After breakfast and check-out, revisit Ban Gioc Waterfall and take a boat trip to get closer to the cascades for fantastic photo opportunities.
Next, explore Nguom Ngao Cave, a magnificent limestone cave believed to have formed around 300 million years ago. In the local Tay language, “Nguom Ngao” means “Tiger Cave,” inspired by the roaring sound of the underground stream echoing through the chambers.
After the visit, begin your journey back to Hanoi via Phuc Hoa and Lang Son.
