Day 1: Luang Prabang Arrival – Half Day City Tour (No Meals)

Welcome to Luang Prabang, the cultural heart of Laos! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly met by our local guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Time permitting, embark on a fascinating half-day city tour, starting with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, home to a rich collection of artifacts reflecting the heritage of Laos. Continue to the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, one of the most beautiful temples in the country, known for its elegant traditional architecture with sweeping roofs.

Next, explore the ancient stupa of Wat Visoun, followed by a visit to the spiritual shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai, each offering a unique insight into Laotian religious life.

Day 2: Luang Prabang – Big Brother Mouse – Ban Khia Luang – Pak Ou Caves (B)

Begin your day with a meaningful visit to the Big Brother Mouse shop in Luang Prabang, where you’ll choose books to donate to a local village. We then travel north along Route 13, before taking a scenic, unpaved road to reach Ban Khia Luang Village.

Here, you’ll enjoy an authentic interaction with the local community: visit the village school, play with the children, and witness their joy as they receive their new books. Take time to explore the village—observe traditional weaving, walk through the peaceful surroundings, and visit the local temple.

Enjoy a local lunch in the village, either a picnic or a traditional Lao meal of sticky rice, laap, and fresh vegetables lovingly prepared by the villagers.

After lunch, say farewell to Ban Khia Luang and continue your journey to Ban Khoklin, passing through picturesque landscapes of mountains and rice paddies. At Ban Khoklin, board a private boat for a relaxing cruise along the Nam Ou River to the famous Pak Ou Caves, filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues.

Continue cruising down the Mekong River back to Luang Prabang, arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Luang Prabang – Khuang Si Waterfall And Ban Chan (B)

Today, we begin with a boat trip across the Mekong River to the picturesque Ban Chan, a traditional pottery village where you can observe age-old ceramic-making techniques. We then head to Phousi Morning Market, a vibrant local market offering everything from dried buffalo skin, local tea, and saltpeter, to fresh produce, poultry, and hill-tribe textiles.

Next, we visit several ethnic minority villages: Ban Ouay (Hmong), Ban Ou (Lao Loum), and Ban Thapene (Khmu), providing insight into the rich cultural diversity of Laos.

Our journey continues to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfall, where you can swim in the turquoise pools or explore forest trails around the cascades.

Return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon.

Day 4: Luang Prabang – Xiengkhuang (B)

Today, we embark on a scenic full-day drive through breathtaking landscapes to Xieng Khuang, a region known for its captivating history and remote charm. Along the way, we make several stops to photograph the stunning natural scenery and visit traditional hill tribe villages, offering authentic glimpses into rural life in northern Laos.

Upon arrival in Xieng Khuang, we head directly to explore Site 1 of the Plain of Jars, an extraordinary archaeological site featuring hundreds of massive stone jars mysteriously scattered across the plateau—an enduring legacy from the Iron Age.

Day 5: Xieng Khuang – Plain Of Jars And Muang Khoun (B)

This morning, we begin with a visit to the lively Central Market in Phonsavan, offering a glimpse into local daily life. We continue to the MAG (Mines Advisory Group) exhibition, where you’ll learn about efforts to clear unexploded ordnance in the region. Next, we explore Site 2 of the Plain of Jars, followed by a short scenic trek to Site 3, passing through Tai Dam and Lao Leum villages, rich in cultural heritage.

After lunch, we enjoy a half-day excursion to the former royal capital of Muang Khoun, known for its ancient temples and colonial-era ruins. Along the way, we visit nearby Hmong and Tai Dam ethnic minority villages, offering deeper insight into the diverse cultures of Xieng Khuang.

Day 6: Xiengkhuang – Muang Khoun – Vang Vieng (B)

This morning, we have time to visit the vibrant Central Market in Phonsavan, where you can observe local trade and the daily rhythm of life. Afterwards, we transfer to Vang Vieng by road, enjoying scenic views along the way. We arrive in Vang Vieng by mid-afternoon and check in to the hotel.

Day 7: Vang Vieng – Half Day Tour - Vientiane (B)

As part of our half-day tour of Vang Vieng, we begin with a visit to the famous Tham Jang Cave, which offers both historical significance and natural beauty. This cave, once used as a strategic hideout by the local people during Chinese invasions, is accessed via a short climb that rewards visitors with panoramic views over the Nam Song River and surrounding countryside.

Next, we cross a small suspension bridge over the Nam Song River to reach Ban Huai Ngai, a tranquil rural village where you will have a chance to engage with the local residents and observe their traditional way of life. This visit offers an authentic glimpse into rural Lao culture, with scenes of farmers tending to fields, children playing, and traditional wooden homes nestled among the greenery.

After lunch in Vang Vieng, we travel south along a scenic road to Vientiane, passing through lush landscapes, limestone karsts, and rice paddies. We arrive in the capital city of Laos before sunset, in time to settle in and enjoy the relaxed evening atmosphere.

Day 8: Vientiane – Half-Day City Tour (B)

Your half-day city tour begins with visits to some of Vientiane’s most revered temples. We start at Wat Sisaket, the oldest surviving temple in the city, famous for its cloister walls housing thousands of tiny Buddha images and rows of seated Buddhas.

Next, we visit the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which once housed the Emerald Buddha and now serves as a museum showcasing religious art and artifacts.

Our tour continues to the That Luang Stupa, the national symbol of Laos and the most sacred monument in the country. This gleaming golden stupa is believed to enshrine a relic of the Buddha.

We also make a stop at the Patuxay Monument, also known as Vientiane’s Arc de Triomphe, for a photo opportunity and to admire its intricate design and panoramic views from the top (optional climb).

The afternoon is free at leisure, giving you time to relax, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a riverside café.

Day 9: Vientiane – Pakse – 4000 Islands (B)

Early this morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your short domestic flight to Pakse, the gateway to southern Laos. Upon arrival, we travel south by road to Champassak, where we visit the spectacular Wat Phu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This pre-Angkorian temple complex, built by the Khmer Empire, is dramatically set at the base of Mount Phu Kao and offers stunning views over the surrounding plains. You’ll have time to wander through the ancient stone structures and learn about the site’s historical and spiritual significance.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we continue our journey by road and long-tail boat, traveling deep into the peaceful region of Si Phan Don (4000 Islands). This scenic area on the Mekong River is dotted with countless small islands and islets, offering a tranquil escape from the modern world.

The remainder of the day is yours to relax and soak up the riverine atmosphere.

Day 10: 4000 Islands and surrounding (B)

After an early breakfast, we set out to explore Khone Island, one of the most historically rich and picturesque islands in the 4000 Islands (Si Phan Don) region. Our morning begins in Ban Khone, where remnants of the French colonial era are still visible. Here, you can admire old colonial villas and visit the site of the first Lao railway, complete with its original locomotive—built by the French to bypass the Mekong’s powerful rapids.

Next, we cruise by boat through the Mekong River, taking in the serene landscape and local river life as we make our way to Liphi Waterfall, also known as Somphamit Falls. This striking cascade is not only a beautiful natural wonder, but also serves as a natural border between Laos and Cambodia.

After soaking in the views, we return by boat to Ban Nakasang and continue by road to the mighty Khone Phapeng Falls—the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia, often referred to as the “Niagara of the East.” Here, the full force of the Mekong crashes down a wide rock terrace, offering a dramatic and unforgettable sight.

Day 11: 4000 Islands – Tad Lo – Pakse (B)

This morning, we bid farewell to Khone Island and journey westward by road into the lush highlands of the Bolaven Plateau. Perched high above the Mekong Valley, this region is celebrated for its refreshing climate, fertile soil, and stunning natural beauty.

Our first stop is the spectacular Tad Fan Waterfall, one of the most iconic sights in the area. This breathtaking natural wonder features twin streams plunging dramatically into a deep, jungle-covered gorge, framed by mist and dense tropical foliage.

As we continue our drive across the plateau, you’ll enjoy views of vast plantations where coffee, tea, cardamom, bananas, and other crops flourish. The Bolaven Plateau is considered the coffee-growing heart of Laos, and the scenery here offers a pleasant contrast to the lowland heat.

In the afternoon, we arrive at Tad Lo, another serene and scenic waterfall spot, nestled in a tranquil setting surrounded by local villages. Here, we have the opportunity to visit nearby ethnic minority communities, including the Alak, Nge, and Katu peoples, and gain insight into their traditional lifestyles and customs.

Following our exploration, we return to Pakse, where you can relax after a day of discovery.
